Thanksgiving: A tradition riddled with risks?

With the holidays coming up, there is a lot of excitement over the different family activities to do, such as a good old fashioned family football game, or creating meals with loved ones. Thanksgiving is a time for families to get together and enjoy each other’s company, bond over grandma’s stuffing, and play or watch some American football. While these activities create fun for the whole family, they can also cause quite a few injuries.

  • Always, always keep a fire extinguisher close by just in case.

Playing a game of football is an iconic American tradition.

A major reason why football injuries occur is that people can take the pick-up game too seriously. Grandpa and uncle Jim aren’t in high school anymore may need a reminder while playing. Leave tackle football to the professionals. It’s best to play flag or touch football with the family.

No matter what, some injuries are bound to happen and that’s OK. Just take a breather, have a seat, and cheer your team on. The best way to combat minor injuries is the tried, true, and tested RICE method. Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation.
