Mallet finger, is when there is damage to the tendon or tendon attachment to bone is responsible for straightening the finger.
It is important to come into the office to get an x-ray and evaluation to make sure there is not a fracture.
If there is not a fracture, treatment consists of splinting the tip of the finger into maximum extension for a total of six weeks. The finger tip must remain straight at all times or the healing process starts over. That’s a long time to remain in a splint. So to make that time a bit more bearable here is a short video on how to wash the finger without allowing the finger to droop down.
