Winter is Coming
Winter is Coming

Are you ready for the inevitable ice and snow coming our way? Old man winter is sending a dangerously icy bite our way. Are you and your car ready for a Midwest winter? Don’t forget to be prepared for the afternoon ice storm that may blow through our town.

No one wants to be stuck on the highway or on the side of the road but at least you can be prepared if it happens.

OSHA recommends having the following in your vehicle in the winter months:

  • Cellphone or two-way radio
  • Windshield ice scraper
  • Snow brush
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Shovel
  • Tow chain
  • Traction aids (bag of sand or cat litter)
  • Emergency flares
  • Jumper cables
  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Road maps
  • Blankets, change of clothes

It’s time to start keeping an eye on the weather. It changes so quickly in these parts that a snow storm can sneak up in an afternoon. Snag an old blanket and bottle of water for the car. Keep that tank full of gas.

Midwest winter storms are always a surprise and hardly dull. Large puffy snowflakes are a treat but icy rains are a norm these days.

There will always be someone that isn’t prepared and may need help. Don’t let it be you and extend that Midwest hospitality if you see someone in need.
