Ahhh water, the elixer of life!

Staying hydrated is always important but did you know WHY it is important for our bodies? Drinking a sufficient amount of water can make all the difference.

So, what does water do to your body?

The CDC reports several positive things that water does for your body.

  • Keeps your body temperature regulated.
  • Lubricates and cushions your joints.
  • Protects your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.
  • Gets rid of wastes through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements.

Water is an integral part of our everyday lives- It connects us to every living thing on earth. We all need it to survive. “Water is the most important factor in nutrition. Water makes up approximately 60% of the human body and is involved in almost every body process.”(source)

Water is the most important factor in nutrition! Can you believe that? Other than trying fad diets and starving yourself, try drinking a glass of water, you may just be thirsty at the mid-afternoon slump. Try it out!

Did you know that lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue? The thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. (source)

So have you had a glass of water today? Are you feeling parched or thirsty?

“Drink water even if you are not thirsty. Thirst is not a reliable way to tell if you need water. You won’t start feeling thirsty until you have already lost about 2% of body weight—enough to hurt performance. Also, if you stop drinking water once your thirst is satisfied, you will only get about half the amount you need.” (source)

Food for thought:

Measure your water glass; exactly how much water are you getting with each glass? You may think you’re getting 24oz when really it’s only 18. So now you know more about water consumption, now it is time to get up and go grab a glass!
