“I have a son-in-law that lived in upper Wisconsin for 8 years and now lives in Minnesota. I mentioned to him how I was nervous about diving today and here are some driving tips he sent me regarding driving in the big snow.”

Tips for Snow Driving:

  1. As much as possible, always keep your wheels moving, even if very slowly.
  2. Do not lose momentum before going up a hill. You’ll never make it up that way.
  3. Plan for your stops and turns long before you reach them by slowing down.
  4. When you need to slow down quickly for a turn or stop, downshift to overdrive and even 2nd. That’s better than just using your breaks which will easilycause you to slide.
  5. If you slide, turn the wheels (steering wheel) INTO the slide, not opposite of it. For a step by step see Doc Hudson’s tips to Lightening McQueen on the dirt track in the movie Cars 1.

Always remember that most drivers will either go too fast in snow (and not be able to stop on time) or go too slow in snow (and not be able to make it up hills and get stuck).  We encourage you to not travel if you don’t have to and if you have to, remember to use caution.  Be safe out there KC!
