The much discussed Hunter Pence of the San Francisco Giants took a wild pitch to the forearm Thursday, fracturing the ulna.

“When only one bone in the forearm is broken, it is typically the ulna — usually as a result of a direct blow to the outside of your arm when you have it raised in self defense.” (orthoinfo.assh.org)

He was fortunate it wasn’t more serious but will still be out for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks for fracture healing. We all hope that he heals fast without further injury.

“In younger patients, fractures are often caused by a high energy injury, such as a motor vehicle accident or contact sports injury. Fractures often cause severe pain, swelling, and bruising at the break site.”
