AC joint Sprain or AC Separation
An acromioclavicular joint separation or sprain is often caused by a high energy injury, such as a motor vehicle accident or contact sports injury. An injury to these ligaments often causes severe pain, swelling, and bruising about the shoulder. It is also common to note a deformity at the top of the shoulder.
