The procedure released to the public was called wrist extensor retinaculum repair surgery.
So what does that mean in Layman’s terms?!
The extensor retinaculum (dorsal carpal ligament) holds the extensor tendons down to the wrist to allow the wrist and fingers to extend without bowstringing.
In general, the clubs try to be nonspecific about the details of a players medical procedures. So this is meant to be a educations resource regarding the extensor retinaculum and not a description of the specific surgery Alex Gordon had.
“Gordon got through the workout with no issues. He was cleared for throwing on Monday (2/23) and should progress to live batting practice by early next week. The 31-year-old outfielder expects to be ready for the start of the 2015 regular season.” –ROTOWORLD
